How to blur a video background
A blurred background puts the subject forward and hides a cluttered room. Keyotte doesn't blur by itself, but it supplies the piece a clean blur often lacks. Here are all the options, honestly.
How do you blur the background of a video?
There are two moments to do it: while shooting, with your phone's portrait or cinematic mode, or in the edit, by blurring the background behind a cut-out subject. Shooting is simpler; the edit lets you decide later.
Some video call and editing apps also offer an automatic blur, with more or less precise edges.
Can Keyotte blur the background?
No. Keyotte has no blur feature: it exports your subject on flat green #00B140, with the sound. The blur happens in your editing app.
What it does supply is the trickiest piece: a subject cleanly separated from the background, frame by frame, so the blur doesn't bleed onto it.
How do you blur the background in the edit with a cut-out subject?
Put the original video on the bottom track and apply a blur (Gaussian or lens blur). Put Keyotte's green screen clip on top, aligned to the frame, and key out the green.
The sharp subject then sits exactly on its blurred copy: only the background looks blurred.
- Track 1: original video + blur effect.
- Track 2: Keyotte green screen clip, same position and same start.
- Keying effect on track 2, color #00B140.
- Adjust the blur strength for a natural look.
Is your phone's portrait mode enough?
Often yes, for a simple talking-head video. But the blur is baked in at capture and can't always be adjusted afterwards, and edges around hair or hands can flicker.
If you want to decide later, film normally and blur in the edit with a cut-out subject.
What does blurring in the edit cost?
The blur itself is free in every editing app; only the cutout is paid. With Keyotte, that's €1.99 up to 1 minute, €4.99 up to 5 minutes, €9.99 up to 10 minutes.
Check first on a free 10-second preview that the subject is well tracked, especially around hair and hands.
Blur or replace the background?
Blurring keeps the feel of the place while hiding the details; replacing changes the setting completely. For a talking-head or training video, a light blur often looks most natural.
To replace instead: change a video background. For to-camera videos: talking-head video background. The edit step by step: CapCut.

Remove my video backgroundFrequently asked questions
Can I blur a video background for free?
Yes, with some phones' portrait mode or an app's automatic blur. Edge quality varies.
Will Keyotte add blur?
It isn't offered today. Keyotte gives you the subject on green; blur happens in the edit.
Why does my blur spill onto the subject?
The blur is applied to the whole frame. You need a cut-out subject on top to keep it sharp.
Can I blur just a face or a license plate?
That's a different need (anonymizing), and Keyotte doesn't do it. Editing apps have mask and tracking tools for that.
