Can Canva remove a video background for free?
As far as we know, no: Canva's video background remover is presented as a paid-plan feature (Canva Pro and similar). Check on Canva's site, as plans change.
We couldn't read an official Canva Pro price during our check on 23 October 2026, so we don't quote one.
What happened to Unscreen, Canva's tool?
Unscreen, owned by Canva, shut down on 29 June 2026 according to Canva's help page. It removed backgrounds from videos online.

When is Canva a good choice?
If you already have a paid plan and edit your videos in Canva, its built-in tool is the shortest path: no export, no round trip. For a presentation or a quick post, it's very handy.
Like many automatic tools, it decides on its own what the subject is. If several people are in the shot, check the result. And think about the final format: if you edit outside Canva, a green screen or transparent file is more flexible than a Canva project.
How can you do it without a Canva subscription?
