Unscreen shut down: what's the alternative for removing a video background?

Unscreen, the online tool that removed video backgrounds, has closed. Here's what that changes, the alternatives out there, their official prices, and how Keyotte goes about it.

Has Unscreen really shut down?

Yes. According to the help page of Canva, Unscreen's owner, the service shut down on 29 June 2026. New videos can no longer be processed there.

If you had videos on Unscreen, check Canva's help page for what happens to your account and files: https://www.canva.com/fr_fr/help/unscreen-shutdown/

What are the alternatives for removing a video background?

There are three kinds of tools: specialist sites paid by the minute or by credit, online video editors with a subscription, and editing apps with built-in auto cutout. The right one mostly depends on how often: a video now and then, or every day.

Canva, which owned Unscreen, offers a video tool on its paid plans; see Canva video background remover.

  • Specialist sites (pay as you go): good for one-off needs.
  • Online video editors (subscription): worth it if you edit every week.
  • Editing apps with built-in cutout: handy on mobile, results vary by video.

How much do the alternatives cost?

Here are the prices listed on official pricing pages, checked on 23 October 2026, in dollars as listed. They can change: check before buying.

What does Keyotte do differently?

You click the person or object to keep, and only that subject stays: everyone else in the shot stays out. You check the tracking on a free 10-second preview (3 per video) before paying.

The result is an MP4 up to 1080p, on flat green #00B140, with the original sound and no watermark. You then key it in CapCut, Premiere, DaVinci Resolve or Final Cut; see CapCut chroma key.

Does Keyotte export transparent video like Unscreen?

No. Keyotte exports on flat green, not as transparent video. That's deliberate: a green screen MP4 opens everywhere, while a transparent video depends on format and app, and often ends up with a black background.

If you absolutely need a transparent file (ProRes 4444, WebM with alpha), pick a tool that exports one, or key in your editor and export with transparency; see transparent background videos.
